Hemmingen is a city ( since 1 March 1999) south of Hanover in Lower Saxony and is part of the Hanover region.

Geography

Boroughs

The city Hemmingen consists of the seven districts Arnum (area: 4.62 km ²), Devese ( 3.27 km ²), Harkenbleck (3.49 km ²), Hemmingen - Westerfeld ( 5.32 km ²), Hiddestorf ( 8.69 km ² ), Ohlendorf (3.56 km ²) and Wilkenburg (2.68 km ²). With 31.58 km ², it is the area specified in the smallest county in the Hanover region.

History

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Arnum, Devese, Harkenbleck, Hemmingen - Westerfeld, Hiddestorf, Ohlendorf and Wilkenburg were merged to form the new municipality Hemmingen. The seven former municipalities have come together quickly to a local community. Characteristic of the districts were residing in the territory of today's Hemmingen in 1939 is the rapid development after 1945. Only 4,334 inhabitants, today there are around 18,500. The modern buildings determine the townscape.

In the district Hemmingen - Westerfeld a stronger structural development showed as early as 1935 until 1939. Between the village level Hemmingen and the Federal Highway 3, the "settlement " was the residential area Westerfeld, next to the main road 3.

1956 began the Council and the community director of community Hemmingen - Westerfeld a far-sighted measure which attracted attention throughout Germany and abroad: On 18 ha was from 1958 to 1962 of the " town center " with nearly 400 homes and 300 apartments in 3 - and 7 - created storey buildings. Education

In Hemmingen there are three primary schools that serve the first year courses, in Arnum, Hemmingen - Westerfeld and Hiddestorf.

The Carl -Friedrich- Gauss - school as a cooperative Gesamtschule ( KGS) is located in Hemmingen - Westerfeld.

Furthermore, there is in the music school Hemmingen - Westerfeld Hemmingen eV where can get a so-called early music education or basic education aged four children.

The city has Hemmingen where services for children and young people in the creative, artistic and non-school settings are provided through three children and youth homes.

Traffic

The Federal Highway 3 passes through Hemmingen - Westerfeld and Arnum. For a planned bypass for many years was issued in 2004 a planning decision. The transmitter Hemmingen of the NDR is a transmitter for radio (medium wave and FM, DAB ) and digital TV (DVB- T) with a guyed steel lattice mast of 149.5 meters. Another 108 -meter mast was blown up in 2006 because he was no longer needed.
