Henry Bathurst, 8th Earl Bathurst

Henry Allen John Bathurst, 8th Earl Bathurst, DL (* May 1, 1927; † 16 October 2011) from 1942 to 1943 known as Lord Apsley, was a British peer, soldier and politician of the Conservative Party. He was well known in recent times especially for a confrontation with Prince William.

Life and career

Bathurst (b. Meeking ) was born as the eldest son of Allen Bathurst, Lord Apsley and his wife Violet Bathurst, Lady Apsley and attended Eton College, Ridley Collegein St. Catharines, Ontario, as well as the Christ Church, University of Oxford. After his father was killed in the Second World War in 1942, he inherited in 1943 the title of his grandfather Seymour Bathurst, 7th Earl Bathurst.

Bathurst joined the military in 1948 and served with the 10th Royal Hussars Royal Gloucestershire Hussars and later.

Membership in the House of Lords

With the title of Earl Bathurst, he also inherited the then associated seat in the House of Lords, he could compete for reasons of age until later. His inaugural address was delivered on 2 June 1960.

Later he took over under Harold Macmillan political office as Lord -in- Waiting ( government whip in the House of Lords) from 1957 to 1961 and as one of several sub- secretaries of state in the Ministry of Interior 1961 until 1962.

Other offices and honors

He was from 1960 to 1986 Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire.

Work in the public

The Sunday Times Rich List, according to 2003 he was ranked 904, along with several others.

Bathurst was implicated in the summer of 2003 in a dispute with Prince William. The mentioned sources, the incident occurred on the estate of Bathurst, one Land Rover SUV overtook drove when Prince William after the polo match in the Club Bathurst in a VW Golf. Bathurst was located on the driver's in the dark and was angry about what he saw what he described as a reckless disregard of traffic rules identity. In his attempt to keep up with the prince, Bathurst was finally stopped by the security team of the Prince.

Speaking to the BBC Bathurst said that " there are rules in the polo club about driving on the Bathurst family property and people should stick to it. " That Clarence House spoke against him a formal apology to an injury, it was not come.

Family

Bathurst married on March 20, 1959 Judith Mary Nelson, they divorced in 1976. Together they had three children:

  • Hon Alexander Edward Seymour Bathurst, * August 8, 1965

He married on January 17, 1978 Gloria Wesley Clarry, daughter of Harold Edward Clarry († 1982).

Bathurst died on October 16, 2011 at the age of 84 years.
