Herbert Chipp

Herbert Chipp ( born January 4, 1850, Hampstead, † August 25, 1903 in Ely, Cambridgeshire ) was an English tennis player.

Chipp stepped 1882-1891 regular at the tournament in Wimbledon. In 1884 he reached the semi-finals, but was beaten in three sets Herbert Lawford. Chipp was primarily a baseline player who played seldom volleys.

In January 1888 Chipp was elected as the first executive director of the British Tennis Association ( Lawn Tennis Association). In 1898 he published his book Recollections Lawn Tennis, in which he talks about his memories of players and matches.

At the age of 50 years Chipp took in 1900, again at Wimbledon Championships in part, but lost his first match against GE Everet clear in three sets. He died three years later in Ely.
