Herbert Rehbein

Herbert Rehbein ( born April 15, 1922 in Hamburg, † July 28, 1979 in Basel Brother Wood, Switzerland ) was a German violinist, orchestra leader, arranger and composer. Together with Bert Kaempfert he created worldwide hits for artists such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. His well-rehearsed with his own orchestra instrumental works are the Easy Listening attributed. International attention was his composition of the Olympic Fanfare for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Life

Born in Hamburg in 1922 Herbert Rehbein already showed great interest in music as a child. Although his parents supported his musical talent, but gave him not the desired expensive piano, but a cheaper violin. Since the age of nine, he studied classical music lessons at the Hamburg Conservatory and practiced pieces for violin by composers such as Brahms, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.

1941, at the age of 19 years, Rehbein received his call- up for military service. According to his musical abilities, he was assigned to a military band and initially stationed in Crete. Later in the war he came to Yugoslavia, where he was taken prisoner. During his three-year internment in Belgrade, he was allowed to take his violin and was able to perfect his skills further. At the end of the war he got a job as a solo violinist and soon worked as director of the orchestra of Radio Belgrade. Rehbein remained until 1952, in Belgrade. During this time, his musical interest from classical music developed towards the big band sound of the great American swing orchestra. Back in Germany he worked for various German Radio Orchestra as solo violinist and as a composer and arranger.

1951 Rehbein met the musician Bert Kaempfert know. The two worked closely together in the coming years and there arose a variety of international hits. In addition, both were on friendly terms with each other. At the beginning of the 1960s, they learned Milt Gabler by the American record company Decca know who helped them to market their songs on the American market.
