Hercule, Duke of Montbazon

Hercule de Rohan ( August 27, 1568 *, † October 16, 1654 ) was from 1594 Duke of Montbazon, peer of France, Prince of Guéméné and Count of Rochefort. He was the son of Louis VI. de Rohan and Léonore de Rohan, Countess of Rochefort, a member of the house of Rohan.

Life

Hercule de Rohan was a faithful servant of both the King Henry III. , As well as its successor, Henry IV. Latter took him in 1597 in the Order of the Holy spirit. 1598, he was lieutenant-general in Brittany and governor of Nantes. When Henry IV was assassinated in 1610 by François Ravaillac, he sat with the king in his coach, and was also wounded in the attack. 1602-1643 was the great hunter champions of France. Eventually he became Governor and Lieutenant-General of Paris and the Ile- de -France.

He married 1594 Madeleine de Lenoncourt († 1602), daughter of Henri II de Lenoncourt, Baron de Vignory, Seigneur de Coupevray, and Françoise de Laval, a sister, both of Marshal Urbain de Laval Boisdauphin as well as the second wife of his father. Their children were:

  • Louis VIII de Rohan (1598-1667), 1654 3rd Duc de Montbazon, 4th Prince de Guéméné, Comte de Rochefort; ∞ Anne de Rohan (1606-1685), 4th Princesse de Guéméné, heiress of Pierre, 3rd Prince de Guéméné, and Madeleine de Rieux
  • Marie de Rohan (1600-1679), called Mademoiselle de Montbazon, the famous Duchesse de Chevreuse; ∞ I Charles d' Albert, duc de Luynes, Constable of France, † 1621; ∞ II Claude de Lorraine, Duke of Chevreuse, † 1657

In 1628 he married his second wife Marie dAvaugour, daughter of Claude dAvaugour, Count of Vertus, which became famous under her married name " Duchesse de Montbazon ". Their children were:
