Background and development

In May 2009, Lovato began working on their new album. A month later, in June, the recordings had been terminated. Another month later, the album has already been published, so that the entire creation just took three months.

Lovato worked with music producers and / or songwriters like Aris Archonitis, Gary Clark, Jeannie Lurie and Anne Preven, which were not involved in her previous album. The German music producer Toby Gad also worked with her. Furthermore, she wrote some songs with John Mayer, John McLaughlin and William Beckett.

Music style

While Lovato had almost written in her debut album Do not Forget all the songs along with the Jonas Brothers, it operated in the formation of the follow-up album no longer with to this extent. The album was released in America on 21 July 2009, 14 songs on Hollywood Records. In Germany it was published on 16 October of that year with 16 songs. Do not Forget and La La Land are not on the American version of the album, but already on the first album of the singer, Do not Forget.

Was promoted the album, among others at Radio Disney. The radio station played on 16 July 2009 repeatedly songs on the album, so that on July 18, all tracks on the album were played. The next day, then a repetition of the songs took place.

The song Here We Go Again was released on 23 June 2009 as a download, on CD you could not purchase the song. Preliminary played the radio station Radio Disney the song since 17 June. The song reached number 15 on the Billboard charts. Overall, the song held seven weeks on the charts. In Canada, the song was able to place only ranked 61. The song was until the release of Skyscraper in 2011 the most successful solo single Lovato.

The music video for the song was filmed on 8 June 2009, directed by Brendan Malloy and Tim Wheeler, and premiered on June 26th on the Disney Channel. Fans of Lovato had the opportunity to play along in the video

Remember December

Remember December was the second single from the album and was released on January 18, 2010 included in the UK. In contrast to Here We Go Again Remember December was not released as a download only, but also on CD. The song reached no significant chart positions, apart from number 80 in the UK single charts.

The album reached with 108,000 sales in the first week No. 1 on the Billboard charts. By September 2011, it sold about 450,000 times in America. Overall, the album was 24 weeks in the American charts. In Canada, it placed itself at number 5 in the charts, it stayed for five weeks. In Germany and Europe in general, the album reached no higher rankings in the charts, apart from Greece, where it could be placed on rank 5.

Reviews

The album received generally average to good reviews. The review aggregator Metacritic gave the album 65 out of 100 possible points. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic rated the CD 3.5 out of 5 stars and was of the opinion that the songs fit perfectly to Lovato's public appearance. Kerri Mason of Billboard praised the album that it is not so much like a typical " Disney album" sounds and called Lovato a natural talent who could really " escape " from the Disney image if it has grown out of just this. Entertainment Weekly rated the album with B- and praised tracks like Got Dynamite, which was called suggestions for a direction that they could stand out from the crowd in the coming years. In an average review of PopMatters one called Lovato as wannabe Kelly Clarkson and compared as evidence Remember December and Clarkson's song My December. They gave the album 5 out of 10 stars.
