Herman VI, Margrave of Baden

Margrave Hermann VI. of Baden ( * 1225, † October 4, 1250 ) was from 1243 to 1250 titular Margrave of Verona and Baden. From 1243 to 1247 he was with his brother Rudolf I also reigning Margrave of Baden. By marriage with Gertrude of Babenberg, he was briefly also Duke of Austria and Styria.

Life

Margrave Hermann VI. was the son of Hermann V. von Baden and the Countess Palatine of the Rhine Irmengard. It was related from the house of Zaehringen and thus with the Salian and Hohenstaufen for three generations.

His father had probably been assigned to him during his lifetime with government functions in the Landgraviate Sausenberg. The Sons of Hermann VI. and Rudolf I took over 1243 first together his paternal inheritance. Both promoted the donated by her mother Lichtenthal Abbey.

Hermann VI. left in 1247 after his marrying into the Austrian dukes his brother Rudolf I, the autocracy of the Margraviate of Baden and moved to Austria, where he tried to rule the dominions of his wife.

Pope Innocent IV confirmed on September 14, 1248 the Margrave Hermann VI. the donation of the Duchy of Austria by his wife Gertrude of Babenberg, and a few months later, on January 31, 1249, the Pope called on the rival King William of Holland, Margrave Hermann VI. to borrow against the Duchy of Austria.

Margrave Hermann VI. was not particularly popular among the nobility and also went in their own country rather brusque to the point. So tried to make a donation for the damage caused in the Horn Altenburg well again, his widow.

After his early death in 1250 there were rumors he had been poisoned, but for which there is no evidence. Hermann was buried in the monastery of Klosterneuburg.
