Hermanovce nad Topľou

Hermanovce nad Topľou (up to 1960 " Hermanovce "; German Hermann village, Hungarian Tapolyhermány ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 705 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Vranov nad Topľou, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The community is located at the northeastern foot of the mountain Slanské Hills on Bach Hermanovsky creek. The center is located at an altitude of 280 m nm and is 22 km from Vranov nad Topľou and 32 km from Prešov away.

There are several nature reserves in the municipality: the nature reserve Hermanovské scaly, up to 80 meters high andesite rock formation, a National Nature Reserve of Mount Šimonka ( 1092 m nm), the highest mountain of Slanské Hills, and the " mountain" Oblík (925 m nm) west of the town, also a national Nature Reserve.

History

A settlement at the site of the present village was built around the middle of the 14th century and was founded by a German mayor under German law. During this time, the first church to have been created. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1399. Since the creek was also border between the counties Sáros and Semplin, was the village until 1882 of two parts: the left bank, located in the county Sáros part belonged to the estate of Solivar ( German Salzburg), the right bank Sempliner part was a good castle Čičava.

1828 are listed in the village of 84 houses and 612 inhabitants.
