Hinterriß is a village in Tyrol and the only permanent settlement within the Karwendel. Politically, it is divided and assigned to two communities whose core locations are on the eastern edge of this mountain range. The portion west of the Rißbachs belongs to the municipality of Vomp, the east of the creek to the municipality Eben am Achensee. After Vomp and layer there is no direct road link.

Geography

Hinterriß is located on 928 m above sea level. A. approximately in the middle of the Rißtales. Its innermost part, the Eng, located in the southeastern quarter of the Karwendel Mountains at the western foot of the Sonnjochgruppe. On the northern edge of the mountain, the valley at Vorderriß connection to the Isarwinkel, a portion of the Isar valley. Since Vorderriß located in Germany and there is no pass road over the Karwendel Mountains, Hinterriß is a functional enclave. In contrast to similar functional and geographical enclaves, such as the Kleinwalsertal or young wood, Hinterriß is not the customs union area to Germany. The surrounding mountains have peaks heights of almost 1500 to over 2000 meters. Their slopes are mostly covered up to the tree line forest. The meadows in the narrow valley together comprise less than one square kilometer. 12 km up the valley lies the Alpine village in Great Eng maple floor.

Population

According to the census from the year 2001, there were 41 inhabitants in the municipality of Vomp and 13 in the district of the municipality level. 2010, three buildings ( two people) from the community level have been reclassified in the Vomp.

Traffic

Hinterriß is accessible year-round on a toll-free road from the Bavarian Vorderriß from. Since pass over this road and continue east to the mountains around the road connections to the core places of the municipalities, the distance is 50 km by plane, after Vomp 70 km away.

From Hinterriß then performs a toll road further into the valley to Eng. In winter it is locked.

In summer, a bus from Lenggries in Bavaria, traveling to every Eng. Companies, this " Bergsteigerbus " in cooperation between the RVO and the sections of Munich and Upper Country of the German Alpine Club.

Church

In Hinterriß a small parish Achenkirch assigned to Church of Our Lady melting / At Our Lady of the Visitation exists. Here several times pilgrimage services are held each year. There is a patron saint, health and animal blessing, a blessing motorcycle and bicycle and car service.

Economy

Economically dependent Hinterriß next to the forestry and hunting mainly on tourism from, accommodation is available, inter alia, the Gasthof zur Post and Café Klösterle Hinterriß. In the tourism advertising, the area is known by the name Hinterriß - Eng. Especially hikers, mountain bikers and skiers in winter ( cross-country skiing and ski touring) can be found here. On 6 June 2009, the newly built natural park was inaugurated as the information center of the Karwendel mountains.
