Hinterwaldberg is a scattered settlement in the Upper Pinzgau, the rear Salzach Valley on the southern edge of the Kitzbühel Alps, and cadastral village and the municipality of Wald im Pinzgau, district of Zell am See / Pinzgau.

Geography

The settlements with about 130 inhabitants and 300 houses are located on the south side of the Salzach, the Hinterwaldberg, northwest above the village forest, by the Old Gerlosstraße (B 165 ), which the Gerlos Pass ( Pinzgauer height ) leads, at altitudes between 1200 m and 1300 m above sea level. History

Hinterwaldberg situated at the old mule track from Mittersill as a commercial node via the Gerlos Pass ( Pinzgauer height ) to Zell am Ziller. It was expanded in 1631 to the wagon trail. In 1962, the leading on Gerlos Alpine Road Krimml new opened, the graduate engineer Franz Wallack, the builder of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, had planned. Thus the Old Gerlosstraße lost (now L 133 ) in importance.

Tourism and Attractions
