Hirschstein

Hirschenstein (district of Meissen, Saxony ) is a rural community in the catchment area of Riesa.

Geography and transport

The community Hirschenstein lies in the middle part of the district of Meißen, on the northern edge of the Lommatzscher care and on the east by the Elbe. The neighboring towns are Meissen (13 km) and Riesa ( 7 km). The Federal Highway 6 leads between the hamlets Mehltheuer and Pahrenz by the community. Hirschenstein is one of the Elbe wine villages.

Coat of arms

The Deer Crest Steiner is an artificial crest, which was created after the merger of the previous communities Hirschenstein and Prausitz. It shows the legendary Hirsch, the cross stone near Boritz and a Dutch windmill.

History

Already in 1205 the deer stone castle was first mentioned. Died here in 1291 Friedrich Tuta, Margrave of Meissen, after a hunt, allegedly after drinking poisoned cherries.

During the Second World War from 1944 to 1945, the castle served as a prison for King Leopold of Belgium with his family, who was interned here.

The community Hirschenstein was incorporated on 1 April 1996 in the town Mehltheuer. This new church was again renamed on 1 October 1996 in Hirschenstein. Finally, the communities Bahra, Boritz, Heyda and Prausitz were incorporated.

Economy

In the district Heyda the vehicle manufacturer Saxony produced since 2009 a replica of the AC Cobra.
