Drumlin in Hirzel

Hirzel is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.

The name Hirzel derived from Hirsul ( = deer - Sol ).

Geography

Hirzel is on the Zimmerberg. The summit of the Hirzel Pass lies in the municipal area, the mountain pass is the shortest road link between Wädenswil on Lake Zurich and in Sihlbrugg Sihltal. It replaced the 600th mule track over the Hirzel Höhi.

The moraine is in two federal inventories Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance recorded (Object number 1307 ) and wetlands of special beauty and national importance (object number 37). The drumlins from Hirzel are few forests.

Population

The population during the last century can be described as rural- rural. Since 1950, produced more and more new buildings. Because of its proximity to Zurich as well as the preferred location of Hirzel in a recreation area to new residents settled from lying on the lake neighboring communities. This resulted in the first years often at different political interests. Today the new arrivals in the authorities and community life are well integrated.

History

Since the solution of Horgen on May 13, 1773 Hirzel is a politically independent community.

Attractions

  • The birthplace of Johanna Spyri ( Meta Heusser home ) and the Spyrimuseum are due to the popularity of the fictional character "Heidi" internationally known.
  • The moorlands of Hirzel in conjunction with the hills and the forests are characterized as very typical of the Hirzel.
  • The hilly landscape with its many large old lime trees on every drumlin is a popular motif for landscape paintings and landscape photographs. The room is a mountain slope Höchi you can enjoy an impressive view of the Sihl and the surrounding hills and mountains.
  • The old mule trail from Lake Zug to Horgen on Lake Zurich via the Hirzel Höhi and is now well signposted. Even Goethe wrote about the steep road from the Sihlbrugg over the Rübgarten, on which he moved on to a rest in the "crown" Sihlbrugg.
  • The " Sihlsprung ", a section of the Sihl, which still has the original, wild character of the river.
  • The " Babenwaag ", an old wooden covered bridge that crosses the Sihl to the Zug region.
  • The Reformed Church with valuable epitaphs from several centuries
  • The Catholic Church of St. Anthony

Economy

There are about 40 farms in Hirzel.

The supply of the village community represent two bakeries, a dairy, a butcher, and the village shops and Landi Volg safe. In the village a few restaurants, two car garages and a club are also located.

The majority of the working population commutes daily in the greater Zurich area.

  • Salomon Tobler (1794-1878), was from 1826 to 1840 pastor of Hirzel and wrote his epic poem The grandson Winkelried 's.
