History of rail transport in the Central African Republic

Rail transport in the Central African Republic was limited to no more short -run railroad track and a train project that was not implemented.

Historic train

The only railway line that was operated on the territory of modern Central African Republic, led by Zinga by Mongo. She only had a route length of 7.5 miles and was from 1930 to about 1960 in operation, when it was destroyed in the turmoil of the War of Independence. It was a narrow gauge railway track width 600 mm. Operators was the Compagnie Générale de Transport en Afrique Equatoriale.

Former rail project

During the phase of the autonomy of the Central African republic within the French Community in 1958, there were plans for a railway line over about 870 km from Bangui to Fort Lamy (now N'Djamena ) in Chad. In the chaos of the Revolutionary War, this project was abandoned.
