Rail transport in Chad

Rail transport in Chad does not exist and has never taken place.

At the beginning of the 20th century began a German company to make engineering surveys for a new railway line in Cameroon, and led in the years 1902/ 03 and 1904 through research trips.

During the existence of the French Community in 1958, there were plans for a railway line over about 870 km from Bangui (Central African Republic ) to Fort Lamy (now N'Djamena ) in Chad. With the dissolution of the French Community, this project was abandoned.

Currently, the plan to build two rail lines with a total length of 1,350 km standard gauge. 2011, the Chad and the China Civil Engineering Construction have recently completed a contract for 7 billion U.S. dollars. The network will serve the freight in the first place, but also passenger to take place. A line should N'Djamena after Moundou and Koutéré on the border with Cameroon lead ( 528 km ). The closest connection option there, the railway line Duala - Nkongsamba is shut down except for a remnant of 29 km. A second railway line is to run from N'Djamena and Abeche Adre on the border of Sudan ( 836 km ). The route is expected to reach the railway line in Khartoum, Nyala Nyala. Speeds up to 120 km / h should be possible. The construction work started in February 2012. The vehicle material is to be delivered from China. Both in Cameroon ( meter gauge ) and in Sudan ( Cape gauge ) are different gauges.
