Hochhaus Uptown München

The skyscraper Uptown Munich at the Georg -Brauchle Ring in Munich with a height of 146 meters, the second tallest structure (after the Olympic Tower ) and has 37 floors and is the tallest building in the city.

Building

Was planned after three years of construction in 2004, completed in the complex Uptown Munich Moosach district office tower from Ingenhoven Overdiek and Partners ( Dusseldorf ); The client was the American company Hines, Munich.

The glass facade envelops the structure of the building as a tensioned membrane. Circular ventilation elements allow the individual windows that open natural ventilation and convey by the visibility of the surrounding background noise in the upper floors of a relationship to the outside world. The high-rise building with 50,200 square meters of space is specified by four seven-story "Campus" buildings (approx. 8,525 m²) flanked that are connected to each other with a transparent roof. In a fifth building 139 apartments are housed.

The bottom plate of the tower has a floor area of approximately 50 × 50 m and required 7,200 cubic meters of concrete with a mass of 18,400 t. Within 72 hours, the bottom plate was poured.

The building came into the city with heavy criticism. The perceived as aesthetically unassuming rectangular shape gave rise to designate square bolts. But above all, it was criticized that the construction pushes in the historic panoramic views from Nymphenburg Castle roundabout. In addition to the Highlight Towers Uptown Munich was probably one of the main triggers for the efforts of the "Initiative our Munich " of the old mayor Georg Kronawitter who succeeded with a public petition on 21 November 2004, the construction of other buildings of this height in Munich until to prevent further notice.

The main users of the skyscraper and the campus building is the Germany headquarters of the mobile operator Telefónica Germany. However, until collection of O2 in the late summer of 2006, the tower was empty.

In August 2006, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation purchased the skyscraper and one of the campus buildings for about 300 million euros.

Since early 2012, 16 floors of the skyscraper will be used by the car manufacturer BMW.
