The University of Applied Sciences Berlin ( HTW Berlin), with around 12,000 students and more than 500 employees, the largest state-owned University of Applied Sciences Berlin and East Germany. There are approximately 70 study programs in the fields of engineering, computer science, economics, culture and design.

The research partners of the HTW Berlin includes the following affiliated institutes and more of the University Affiliated Research Institutes: Berlin Institute of Bank Corporate Governance, Research Institute for German and European real estate and cooperative law, GFaI - Society for the Promotion of Applied computer science eV, media -Institut Berlin e. V. (MIB ) and itw - Capacity Building Institute for education and training Berlin.

The HTW Berlin is split between two locations: the Campus Treskowallee in Berlin -Karl Horst and Wilhelminenhof campus in Berlin- Oberschoeneweide.

History

College for decompose, composing and pattern drawing

The College for decompose, composing and pattern drawing was founded in 1874. Their premises were located since the early 20th century in Berlin- Friedrichshain at the Warsaw square where the courses of study clothing design and garment technology were taught. The technical school was later to textile and fashion school in the city of Berlin, then engineering school for Apparel Production Technology and since 1990 a part of the Engineering School Berlin. In 1994, the entire apparel technology was adopted into the HTW. Today includes the Department of Design at the HTW, in addition to fashion design, several design and culture courses such as communications, industrial or game design. Since the summer of 2006, the Department of the Oberschoeneweide district is located on the campus Wilhelminenhof, in renovated and converted warehouses of the former cable factory Oberspree.

Engineering College Berlin

The 1948 launched Engineering School of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering was established in a former parochial school in the city of Victoria. In 1988 a merger with the Engineering School Berlin.

University of Economics ( HFOE )

On 4 October 1950, opened the College of planned economy in the building of the former Kant -Gymnasium at the Treskowallee in Berlin -Karl Horst, which was renamed University of Economics ( HFOE ) in 1954 and 1972, the additional name Bruno Leuschner received.

The 1913-1914 buildings were extended 1919-1920 and 1950 rebuilt. They stand together with the 1955 built in the rear area of ​​the Auditorium Maximum historical monument. On 1 October 1991, the HFOE was dissolved and dismissed most of the staff and professors. In their place, the College of Sciences was founded. Today there are no professors of the former HFOE more in the service of the HTW Berlin.

University of Applied Sciences ( HTW ) since 1990

On 1 October 1991, the Engineering College Berlin and the HFOE went to the College of Technology and Economics in founding ( HTW Berlin) on velvet of all properties in Berlin. Herein lies the reason for the spread in the city lying campuses of the university. The founding team were founding rector Jürgen Tippe, Vice-Rector Rainer and Dieter Knigge Markusch. 1993 decided Jürgen Tap to leave the HTW, and the previous Vice-Rector Rainer Knigge was elected in 1994 as President of the HTW Berlin. On 1 April 1994, the University of Applied Sciences Berlin ( HTW ) was legally independent. The UAS of Deutsche Telekom Berlin was incorporated in 1996 in the HTW Berlin. In the same year the student council accused the then President of the HTW Berlin, Rainer Knigge, illegal transactions before they will ultimately dealt also the Berlin House of Representatives.

On 3 July 1998, Helmut Schmidt was elected president of the HTW Berlin. At the election, the previously incumbent President Rainer Knigge went to, but this was not re-elected, which was probably due to the released a few days before the election documentation on the case Knigge. This dealt with the views expressed in 1996 allegations in detail and had been created by former and active members of the student union of the HTW Berlin on behalf of StuPa the HTW Berlin.

By the summer of 2009, the HTW distributed (then HTW ) at five locations in Berlin. With the winter semester of 2009, the smaller stores were closed and the college is now focused on the campus and the campus Treskowallee Wilhelminenhof. Since October 2009, the locations in Berlin- Lichtenberg ( Alley of Cosmonauts 20-22), closed in Blankenburg ( Blankenburger Pflasterweg 102) and in Berlin- Rummelsburg ( Market Street 9). As part of the move at the Warsaw court ( Rummelsburg ) was previously the "Campus of the designers ' closed and moved to the location Oberschoeneweide " Campus Wilhelminenhof ".

The HTW Berlin has an internal university suggestion system. The submitted proposals for improvement are examined by students under the leadership of Karin Wagner, evaluated and monitored its implementation. Each semester, the best submitted suggestion will be awarded.
