The High Mark is a 414 meter high mountain in the Bavarian Spessart district of Aschaffenburg. It borders directly to the Hahnenkamm (437 m above sea level. NN ) in the southwest.

Name

In the seventh century Dagobert I King ordered the limits in Kahlgrund new. This method is called mark out. Hence the name Hohe Mark.

History

In the past, however, the field of Highmark moved over the whole forest area of Hörstein to Geiselbach. It was an area of 3857 acres that the four center courts Wilmundsheim (later Alzenau, with Hemsbach, Kälberau, Michel Bach and waterless ), Hörstein ( with Welzheim and Kahl), Moembris and Somborn ( with Albstadt, Altenmittlau, Bernbach, Horbach and Neuses ) shared. The Hohemark consisted of two sections. The one south of the Bald was called at that time Wüstebach. Today, the term has gone completely lost and you know the mountain as Hahnenkamm. The area north of the Bald to the tower head and Heidkopf is still called the Sölzert.

The entire area of the historic High Mark is part of the natural ecosystem Hahnenkamm Haidkopf - ridge.

Southeast of the summit is the quarry Hemsbach, which was shut down a few years ago.

A road in the district Mömbriser bridges at the foot of the mountain is named after the High Mark.
