Description

The forested mountain lies at the lower end to the vicious ground, north of Hüttelngesäß, on the right side of the Kahltals. The valley separates the tower head of the Hohe Mark on the Hahnenkamm. The tower head is located in the northeastern part of the urban area of Alzenau. Not to be confused he is with the eponymous mountain south of the city Spessart)>.

The very steep southern slopes towards the summit to extend the so-called Hesse curve between low and Michel Steinbach Bach. Also to the west and east of the mountain about 200 m drops steeply. To the north, it is connected with the Heidkopf (371 m). This area is also called Sölzert, where the term has nearly lost today. It is the continuation of the mountain range of the Hahnenkamm to Näßlichbach at Geiselbach. The entire area north and south of the Bald was formerly called Hohe Mark.

There three paths leading to the tower head. One of the west, across the Dörsthöfe by the Wolf reason. Another way is via the eastern slope of Hüttelngesäß by the devil reason. From the north of the summit can be reached by Glad bracket over the Heidkopf.

Sweden Schanze

The tower head bears on its summit a ring wall, the Sweden ski jump is called. The term falls in Germany often associated with ring walls. This is around two large, extending in a semicircle walls.

As the mountain has three steep sides, the area to the north of the walls was covered, the remains of which can still be seen. The main wall enclosed an area of about 225 m long and 100 m wide. Even today, gives a 100 m long wall 2-4 m high and 12 m thickness at the bottom an impression of the power of the system. The main wall was preceded by a 4 m wide trench. Before that extends in a semicircle as potent overcast, which encloses an area of 65 m diameter. Inside, one should have previously been recognized on the west side remains of a quadrangular masonry.

The emergence of the fortification system is placed in the Hallstatt period ( 800-400 BC). But so far, lack scientific studies in order to secure this assumption.
