The High light is at an altitude of 2651 meters, the second highest mountain in the Allgäu Alps to the Great Krottenkopf. The summit is located in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Environment

The mountain is located 4 ½ miles in a straight line north-northwest of Steeg in the Lech Valley and 14 kilometers south of Oberstdorf. Adjacent peaks are in the northeast of the Wild Man Bockkarkopf that Hochfrottspitze and Mädelegabel. In the south, close the Peischelspitze and Ellbognerspitze, in the west the Hochgundspitze and the high Rappenkopf to. To the northwest lies the 200 meters lower Rotgundspitze.

First ascent

In 1854, a survey marker was erected as part of the National Survey. In the first tourist commission of the mountain by Hermann von Barth on August 6, 1869, it was still present. Barth reached from the top coming from the beaver head over to the high mountain pasture and the stone lip of the Northwest. This road is still the normal route today.

Bases and tours

  • A suitable base for the ascent of the High light via the normal route, the easiest route is the north westernmost Rappenseehütte at 2091 meters altitude. From the hut to the summit in 1 ½ hours is easy to climb. The path leads through the lying on 2262 meters altitude Large stone lip, which marks the border between Germany and Austria here on the west flank of the summit.
  • In 4 ½ hours, the High light through the Hochalptal Steeg ( to the south) from committed. The difference in altitude is 1527 meters in altitude on this tour. This climb is also suitable as a spring ski tour.
