Holiare

Holiare ( until 1948 slovak " Gellér "; Hungarian Gellér ) is a municipality in south-western Slovakia with 476 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Komárno, a part of the Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Danubian Lowland on the Great Rye Island. The center is located at an altitude of 112 m nm and is seven kilometers from Velky Meder, and 27 kilometers from Komárno.

History

Holiare was first mentioned in 1257 as Guller documented. In the 15th century the originally some place in two places with former name Felsewgyeleer and Alsogyeleer (both 1449 ) has divided. 1828 there were 39 houses in Felsőgellér and 261 inhabitants, in Alsógeller 20 houses and 71 inhabitants. After crumbled in November 1918, the Austria -Hungarian army, the area of Czechoslovak troops was occupied. Later then passed completely Czechoslovakia by the Treaty of Trianon the area. After the First Vienna Award Holiare fell in the years 1938-1945 again in Hungarian hands. In 1940, the two places that were then called Felsőgellér ( Slow Horný Gellér ) and Alsógellér ( Slow Dolny Gellér ), reunited.

From 1971 to 1994, the village was part of the community Bodza.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Holiare 468 inhabitants, of whom 421 Hungarians and Slovaks 14. 33 inhabitants did not respond. 259 inhabitants known to the Reformed Church, 94 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents for evangelistic church and one population to the Greek Catholic Church and the United Methodist Church; 1 inhabitants was Konfession.71 other residents were non-denominational and 38 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
