Holštejn

Holštejn ( German Holstein) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located in the Moravian Karst, 11 km east of Blansko and belongs to the Okres Blansko on.

The village lies in the valley of the Holstein creek, which also drives two mills ( Zukalův Mlýn and Vaňousův Mlýn ) here. The Zukalův mill was declared a monument of Kraj. West of Holštejn an elongated narrow chain of karst rocks on which the south of town, the remains of the eponymous castle Holštejn (Holstein ) stretches can be found. South of the castle ruins of the brook flows into numerous caves and sinkholes marked rocks.

In the southern area of the quarries Holštejn Mala and Velka Dohoda be operated.

History

The first mention of Holstein dates from the year 1334. 1321 before it got to the Lords of Holstein, which earned its name from the castle, which they owned until 1437. Already in 1430 Holstein was referred to as town. Between 1535 and 1550 the city was desolate. The present village was established in 1791 on the site of the original manor house.

Sports

At the karst rocks near the village is climbed for centuries. In 2011, the probably most difficult climbing route was first climbed by the Czech Republic Adam Ondra on the rocks with the route Perlorodka.
