Homeboy is an American sports drama from the year 1988. Directed by Michael Seresin, Mickey Rourke wrote this film for the first time a script. In addition, he is like to see Christopher Walken and Debra fire as the main character.

Action

The Cowboy Johnny Walker is getting on in years boxer. After a victory he hopes the big comeback. But he will be sidelined due to a difficult injury and therefore traveling. As he learns the carousel owner Ruby know at a fairground. Johnny falls in love with Ruby, and his feelings are reciprocated. But his friend and promoter Wesley has other plans and asks him to contest the fight, so that he can carry out a bank robbery. Johnny has to decide whether he helps his friend the bank robbery or Ruby, his new girlfriend is because an injury can be fatal now. As Wesley carries out the bank robbery, Johnny is in the ring.

Production

Production was performed by Cinema International. Outdoor shots were taken in Asbury Park, New Jersey, for the interior shots the Convention Hall was used at the same location. In the movie The Wrestler Mickey Rourke has been back as an athlete at the same location filming.

Homeboy was distributed by International Video Entertainment on VHS since 2009 and distributes Lions Gate Films Home Entertainment, the subsidiary of Lions Gate Entertainment, the film on DVD.

The Boxdrama was released in France on 24 August 1988. On 15 September 1988 Homeboy then appeared in the United States. The following year, the film (7 April ), Sweden (June 30 ) and in Germany (September 7 ) released in Portugal (17 March ), Finland. On September 1, 2009, the film was released on DVD.

  • Debra fire the lover of Johnny Walker at that time was the wife of Mickey Rourke.
  • Homeboy is the first film, which was written by Mickey Rourke. In the credits, he is but mentioned as Sir Eddie Cook, as in his subsequent films.
