Hong Song-nam

Hong Song -nam ( born October 2, 1924 in Cheongju, at that time the Empire of Japan, South Korea today, † 31 March 2009) was a North Korean politicians.

Hong Song -nam studied at the Kim Il-sung University in Pyongyang. He then studied electrical technology at the Prague Technical Institute. Since 1954 he worked in the North Korean Ministry of Heavy Industry.

In 1964 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea ( WPK ) and was from 1971 Minister of Heavy Industry. From 1973 to 1975 he was Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Council, and from 1973 to 1977 Chairman of the State Planning Commission.

From 1982, Hong was the first secretary of the Party in the province P'yŏngan - namdo. Since 1986 he is a member of the Politburo and again since 1987 Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Council and Chairman of the State Planning Commission. From 1990 to 1997 he was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. In 1997, he broke Kang Song -san as Council Chairman from (Cabinet Hong Song -nam I) and was named after the 1998 parliamentary elections were re-elected to the formal head of government (Cabinet Hong Song -nam II). After the 2003 elections he was replaced by Pak Pong -ju.
