Honoré Charles Reille

Honoré (or Henri ) -Charles -Michel- Joseph, comte Reille ( born September 1, 1775 in Antibes, † March 4, 1860 in Paris) was a French general, marshal and peer of France.

Life

Reille fought under Dumouriez in 1792 and then became adjutant Massena, whose daughter he later married.

1800 Commander of Florence and sub- chief of the General Staff in Italy, 1803 Brigadier General, he commanded in 1805 in the Austrian War the Württemberg contingent, fought from 1806 to 1807 in Jena, Pultusk and Ostrolenka and as Napoleon I aide at Friedland.

After the outbreak of the Spanish insurrection he fought in Catalonia, where he took Figueres and Roses, made in 1809, the Battle of Wagram, was governor of Navarre. Then he commanded until 1812 in Aragon, then the army of Portugal and the Pyrenees against Wellington.

For his services he received from the Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph, the Commander's Cross of the Military Order of Max Joseph Order.

After the fall of Napoleon he became inspector of infantry of the 14th and 15th Division and commanded 1815 at Quatre -Bras and Belle- Alliance, the 2nd Army Corps.

In 1819 he was appointed Pair, 1847 Marshall, 1852 appointed Senator. He died on March 4, 1860 in Paris.

His son was André -Charles -Victor Reille.

Honors

His name is inscribed on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in the 34th column.
