Hörnli Hut

The Hörnlihütte is an alpine refuge in the Swiss Alps. It lies at the foot of the Matterhorn on the foothills of the NO - ridge ( Hörnligrat ) above Zermatt at an altitude of 3260 m. Owner of the cottage was the Monte Rosa Section in Sion (Sion) of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC ), the cabin has sold in 2012 to the civic community of Zermatt. The cottage is to be extensively refurbished for the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 2015 and remains up to Wiedereröffunung closed to the public.

The Hörnlihütte used together with the built onto the same spot Berghaus Matterhorn ( sleeps 10, same management period ) mainly as a base for an ascent of 4478 m high Matterhorn over the macaroni and the Zmuttgrat.

Rise

The common climb to the hut starts at the top station of the Schwarzsee track ( 2583 m) on the same lake. From there in about 2-3 hours to the hut. The rise directly from Zermatt starting without using the cable car takes 4 ½ hours to complete.
