House of Cards (U.S. TV series)
House of Cards is an American web series that is broadcast since February 2013 in the United States of Netflix streaming. The political thriller series was created as an extended U.S. adaptation of the BBC series of the same name, in turn based on the novel A house of cards.

The series takes place in Washington, D.C. In the center is Francis "Frank" Underwood ( Spacey ), an intelligent, experienced and power-conscious congressman of the Democratic Party. As Majority Whip of the Democrats, it is his duty to bring the delegates to party or government line. When the coveted and already promised post of foreign minister, however, denied him the new president and party colleague Garrett Walker, Underwood seeks revenge. Through intrigue and ruthless approach it increases its political influence, supported by his wife Claire also calculated. Frank now uses his intimate knowledge of the political establishment in Washington and exploited, among others, an ambitious reporter for his goals.
Special stylistic devices in the presentation is the repeated breaking of the fourth wall by the protagonists, and this directs his often sarcastic remarks directly to the audience.
Production and broadcasting
The video -on- demand provider Netflix secured the rights to the competition of the U.S. cable channel like HBO, Showtime and AMC and immediately ordered two squadrons with a total of 26 episodes. The first episode was shown on November 6, 2013 in ProSieben Maxx in the original version with German subtitles as a preview, from 13 November, two episodes ( including the first ) are regularly sent per week. On Sat.1 and one ORF is the dubbed version since November 10, 2013 aired on Sat.1 ended broadcasting on 29 December 2013. In Switzerland it shows SRF1 bilingual since 11 November 2013.
House of Cards was praised in advance of the broadcast. In various meetings, the series received good reviews.

House of Cards is the first single broadcast via streaming service series, which was nominated for best drama series Emmy. Overall, they received nine nominations. In three of the nine categories, the series received an award.
