Hovhannes Bedros XVIII. Kasparian, and Johannes Petrus XVIII. Kasparian, ( born January 20, 1927 in Cairo, † January 16, 2011 in Beirut ) from 1982 to 1998, the eighteenth Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia and Armenian.

Life

After his education at the Armenian Catholic Patriarchal Institute in Bzommar ( ICPB ) Jean Kasparian was ordained priest on 13 April 1952. 1972 he was appointed bishop of Baghdad archeparchy of the Armenian Catholic Church by Pope Paul VI. The episcopal ordination took place February 1973 by the Patriarch of Cilicia, Iknadios Bedros XVI. Batanian; Were co-consecrators Georges layeK, Archbishop of Aleppo archeparchy, and Raphaël Bayan, Bishop of the Eparchy Iskanderiya. Kasparian held that post until 1982, when he became the new Patriarch of Cilicia and thus board until 1998, the Armenian Catholic Church.

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1991 as a member of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts.

Kasparian died on 16 January 2011 at the age of 83 years in a Beirut hospital. Kasparian, who suffered from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, had been admitted several days before his death there. His funeral took place in the Armenian Catholic monastery Bzommar near Beirut.
