Hucho taimen

The Taimen ( Hucho taimen ) is a bony fish of the family Salmonidae.

Description

The body of the elongate fish reaches a length of one meter or more and has a weight of 30 to 60, in the Siberian flows to more than 80 kilograms. A 1988 Caught in Kotui copy had a record length of 2.10 meters and weighed 105 kg.

The taimen is similar to the salmon, but the head is more flattened pike -like and drawn unlike the Danube salmon with small black spots. He has 26 to 30 scale rows above the lateral line, a kind of salmon only 22 to 26 juveniles have dark cross bands. During the spawning season old animals are strong coppery.

Occurrence and life

He is a fish of the Siberian power systems of the Volga Urals over, Ob, Yenisei, Selenga, Lena and Amur. He lives in freshwater stationary (no anadromous migratory fish ), and preferably strong and strongest flow. In lakes it is found only sporadically. During the spawning season in May, he immigrated to the headwaters and even in shallow streams. The spawning grounds are located on boulders and coarse gravel.

Its diet consists mainly of carp fishing and coregonids. Large specimens can also prey on small mammals and birds. One intensive feeding in spring and autumn follow periods of hunger during the summer and winter. The taimen is caught with throw nets and different fishing methods, is particularly popular fly fishing.
