Hugh XII of Lusignan

Hugo XII. of Lusignan (c. 1235/1240; † after August 25, 1270 in Tunis ) was lord of Lusignan, Couhé and Peyrat, Count of La Marche and Angoulême.

He was the son of Hugo XI. of Lusignan and Jolanda of Dreux.

1253 or 1254 he married Joan of Fougères ( † after 1273), daughter of Raoul III. , Lord of Fougères and Isabel of Craon. With her he had seven children:

  • Hugo XIII. (* 1259, † 1303) Lord of Lusignan, Count of La Marche and Angoulême
  • Guido I ( † 1308) Lord of Couhé and Peyrat, from 1303 Mr. de Lusignan, Count of La Marche and Angoulême
  • Jolanda I ( * 1257, † 1314) from 1308 Mistress of Couhé and Peyrat, Lady of Lusignan, Countess of La Marche
  • Johanna († 1323), ∞ 1) Bernhard IV († 1280 ), Lord of Albret, 2 ) Piers of genes Ville ( † 1292 ), Lord of Trim and Ludlow

He succeeds his father, after his grandfather Hugo X. in 1249 and his father Hugo XI. 1250 both on the Sixth Crusade of King Louis IX. had fallen into Egypt. 1270 accompanied Hugo XII. same King Louis IX. on the Seventh Crusade to Tunisia. During the siege of Tunis, the king died on August 25, 1270 to a plague. Before a truce was signed with the Caliph of Tunis on October 30, 1270, Hugo had died. His eldest son, Hugo XIII. succeeded him.
