Humenné

Humenné ( Homenau German, Hungarian Homonna, Ukrainian- russinisch Гуменне ) is a city in eastern Slovakia.

General description and

The city lies on Laborec and is adjacent to Michalovce a center of eastern Slovakia. In the city center there is a pedestrian street that leads to the castle. In a park surrounded Renaissance castle houses a museum. There is also a small museum with the Greek Catholic wooden church of Nová Sedlica. A landmark of the city Humenné - In addition to the Renaissance castle is the former monastery - now Roman Catholic Church - built in the Gothic style. Near the town there are two medieval ruined castles: Castle and Castle Jasenov Brekov.

In Humenné live as in many Eastern Slovak towns members of several denominations together. Testimony are the churches of various denominations, a Russian Orthodox church, three Roman Catholic churches, three Greek Catholic churches and a Calvinist church.

History

The village was mentioned in documents for the first time in 1317 as Homonna. The fate of the city were in the subsequent period closely connected to the noble family of Drugeths ( circa 1320-1684 ). They were landowners in today's eastern Slovakia with more than 300 villages and made the present town with a castle - today Humenné castle - to her seat

Since 1871, the city is connected to the railway network, see railway Michaľany - Medzilaborce mesto - Lupkow.

During the First World War, the Städt was briefly occupied during the battle in the Carpathians (1914/1915) on 23 November 1914 by Russian troops, they had to but on March 9, again in 1915 over the Carpathian Mountains main ridge retreat.

1960, the place Kudlovce was incorporated (in the north ), 1971 then the places Lackovce ( in the East, since August 1, 1999 again independently) and Kasenov (in the south, since 1990 again independently).
