Hvítanes is located north of the capital on the east coast Streymoys. The town was founded in 1837. Today it is planning an undersea tunnel to Skálafjørður on Eysturoy. This would significantly reduce the driving time from Tórshavn to the major urban centers to Runavík and Nes.
