Hybe

Hybe (Slovak 1946-1954 " Hyby "; German Geib, Hungarian Hibbe ) is a municipality in Žilinský in Slovakia.

Geography

The place is located in the Podtatranská kotlina ( Under Tatra boiler) on the stream Hybica, 18 km east of Liptovsky Mikulas, 37 km west of Poprad. Its land is almost 53 km ². Hybe can be reached via the state road 18 or the motorway exit Hybe ( Highway D1 ); the rail connection is available in the neighboring communities Kráľova Lehota and Východná.

History

Hybe is first mentioned in a document from 1239. 1265 was the place the municipal law ( Karpfener law) and was the end of the 13th century to the market town. There were also attempts to promote the mining industry, but they were only little success. The place belonged since the end of the 14th century the estate of Liptovsky Hradok.

Until 1918, the village in the county Liptau the Kingdom of Hungary belonged and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today.

In the local Roman Catholic church is the tomb of the Hungarian poet Bálint Balassa and his family.
