Hyundai Rotem

The Hyundai Rotem Company is a South Korean manufacturer of rail vehicles, battle tanks, and production equipment. The company is a subsidiary of Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and has its headquarters in the district of Seocho -gu Seoul capital. Due to the range of products are supplied mainly public or military authority. In 2009, the company employed 3,800 people, including 700 in research and development.

History

The company was formed in 1999 by merging the railway activities of Hanjin Heavy Industries, Daewoo Heavy Industries and Hyundai Precision & Industries under the name KOROS (Korea Rolling Stock Corporation). In 2002 the name was changed to Rotem Company, and since 2007 the company trades as Hyundai Rotem Company.

With the in-house development KTX - II, Hyundai Rotem involved in tenders for the construction of high-speed trains in Brazil and the U.S. state of California. Since a relationship for Southern California Rail Authority already exist and the North America headquarters of Hyundai Motors is located in California, Hyundai Rotem regarded there as a promising bidders.
