Ian Rogers (chess player)

Ian Rogers ( * June 24, 1960 in Hobart, Tasmania ) is an Australian chess player.

Life

Ian Rogers celebrated in the 1980's many successes. He became an International Master in 1980 and 1985, Grand Master, as the then only Australian (Walter Browne was appointed in 1970 as an Australian Grand Master, but plays since 1973 for the U.S. Chess Federation ). Over 20 years he led the ranking of Australia and won four Australian championships (1980, 1986, 1998 and 2006).

The trained meteorologist began after completing his studies at the University of Melbourne a chess professional career and pulled the mid-1980s to the Netherlands, because it allowed a residence in Europe easier to participate in numerous high-class tournaments. In 1983, he was divided winner at the Commonwealth Championships, first in Nuroro 1984, 1985 first in Wijk aan Zee in Kragujevac, in 1988 he won in Calcutta. 1988, 1989 and 1990, he won in Groningen.

In July 2007, Rogers said surprisingly his retirement from professional chess on health grounds. But as author, trainer and commentator, he is still active. His Elo rating is unchanged at 2545 in October 2007, its highest number of 2618 he arrived in January 1999.

Chess team

National

Between 1978 and 2006, Rogers took on 14 chess Olympiads (only 1998, he was missing ), but he played twelve times on top board of the Australian team. In the Asian Team Championship 1981, he took third place with Australia.

Chess club

In the British 4NCL Rogers played from 1996 to 1999 with the crew of the British Chess Magazine from 2000 to 2002 Beeson Gregory, with whom he won the 2001 and 2002 4NCL and 2003-2007 for The ADs.

In the German Chess Bundesliga Rogers played from 1995 to 1997 and from 1998 to 2000 at Delmenhorster Chess Club ( of which he was also in the seasons 1994/95 and 1997/98 in the 2nd Bundesliga ) and in the 2000/ 01 season at SV Castrop- rauxel.

In the Dutch Meesterklasse (until 1996 Hoofdklasse ) Rogers played until 2007 in Hilversum Schaakgenootschap.
