Ian Welsh

Ian Welsh is a former Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Political career

Welsh joined already in his youth in the Labour Party. He was involved in regional policy of Ayrshire and rose to the level of the political leadership Unitary Authority South Ayrshire. As a highly motivated politician, he was touted as one of the future political elite in the country.

In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Welsh first came to elections at the national level. He applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Ayr and was able to win by a margin of 25 votes against the candidate of conservatives. This was around the narrowest election of all constituencies why the ballots were counted twice. In the newly created Scottish Parliament Welsh received no supporting task and took place in the back rows. In December of the same year he announced his resignation.
