Ian Wilson (cinematographer)

Ian Wilson ( born April 23, 1939 in London ) is a British cinematographer.

Biography

Ian Wilson studied graphic design and film technology at the Nottingham School of Art and at the London International Film School. In the 1960s he worked as a cameraman for the United Nations and took pictures for documentation in Greece. In 1966, he first worked as a cinematographer in the film Private Right of Michael Papas. In the following years he was involved in short films, commercials and documentaries. In 1976, he photographed the animated film The Butterfly Ball ( based on the concept album The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper 's Feast of Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover ) and the science fiction television series Quatermass by Piers Haggard.

In 1982 he received a BAFTA nomination for the mini-series Land of the Fire tree by Roy Ward Baker. 1986 started his collaboration with British director and screenwriters David Leland. With Leland, he worked on the films Wish You Were Here - I wish you were here, tired of life live longer and The Big Man. In the 1990s, Wilson was involved in films such as Edward II, Backbeat, Jane Austen's Emma and The Crying Game. For the version of A Christmas Carol - The Night Before Christmas with Patrick Stewart in 1999 he received an Emmy Award nomination.
