Ä°brahim Zengin

İbrahim Zengin ( born 1931 in Amasya ) is a former Turkish wrestler. He was silver medalist at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.

Career

İbrahim Zengin comes from Amasya and began as a teenager with the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling. Later, he also turned to the Olympic rings and developed into an outstanding freestyle wrestler in the lightweight and welterweight. A large part of this was also the coach Nuri Yaşar Boytorun and Dogu.

In 1951 he was first used at the World Championships in Helsinki in an international championship. He wrestled in Leichtgrwicht, free style and took an excellent 3rd place. Defeated, he was of Garibaldo Nizzola from Italy and Olle Anderberg from Sweden.

For the 1952 Olympic Games, he could not qualify. This, however, he succeeded in 1956. In Melbourne he started welterweight and won the silver medal there. In the final he was defeated by Mitsuo Ikeda from Japan on points.

Given the enormously strong competition and the general class that existed in Turkey in the 1950s, Zengin were no further deployments at international championships. In the late 1950s he ended his active career wrestler and became a coach in Tokat. One of his students was Master Hasan Sevinc.
