Ida-Viru County

The Ida- Viru (Estonian: Ida -Viru maakond or Ida- Virumaa; German: East Wierland ) is a county ( maakond ) in Estonia.

Geography

Ida- Virumaa located in the northeastern part of the country, bordering the counties Lääne -Viru in the west, Jõgeva in the south and in the east forms the border with Russia. Likewise, two limits waters at this circle: the Lake Peipsi in the south and the Gulf of Finland in the north.

History

2005, the city Jõhvi was merged with the surrounding community Jõhvi.

Policy

Under a law of 13 December 1995, the governor is appointed in consultation with the local government on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Governor

The Governor directs the business of the district administration, represents the interests of the State and to ensure a balanced development of the circle. He coordinates the cooperation between the regional offices of ministries and other administrative authorities and the local government. He is also responsible for the distribution and use of state property in the district, approved the proposed budgets of state agencies and monitors compliance.

He also oversees the work of the communes of the district and represents the county in court.

The governor is the Government of the Republic of Estonia accountable on its activities.

Economy and infrastructure

In Ida- Virumaa a large part of the industry of Estonia is located. Next, this area has the largest shale deposits in the country.
