Ignotus

Ignotus (Latin, " the unknown"; born Hugó Veigelsberg ) ( born November 2, 1869 in Pest; † August 3, 1949 in Budapest) was a Hungarian journalist, literary critic, poet and writer.

Life

Ignotus grew up in a German-speaking Jewish family. His father Leó Veigelsberg was chief editor of the Pester Lloyd, his son Pál Ignotus (1901-1978) was an important writer and essayist.

Ignotus doctorate in law at the University of Budapest, he became a journalist. From the year 1891 he was a staff member of the magazine A Hét, where he started in 1893 a collection of recipes in the book "Emma asszony szakácskönyve " - appeared "A Hét szakácskönyve ". In 1902 he went to the daily Magyar Hírlap. During these years he traveled Germany, Turkey, the Balkans and the United States. In 1906 he was a co-founder of the magazine " Szerda ".

In 1908 he founded with Ernő Osvát and Miksa Fenyo the literary journal Nyugat and was in years 1908-1929 her chief editor.
