Illela is a department in the Tahoua region in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the south of the country. It consists of the township Illela and the rural communities Badaguichiri and Tajaé. The eponymous capital of the department is Illela.

History

After independence in 1960, Niger's territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Illela. 1964 was divided into seven administrative reform Niger departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Illela was converted to the district Illela. The educator Souleymane Ly headed from 1966 to 1967 as a sub- prefect of the arrondissement. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger were raised to departments, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect. The structure of the department in communities exists since the year 2002. Previously, it consisted of the urban center and the Canton Illela Illela / Tajaé. 2011 Bagaroua was dissolved as a separate department from the Department Illela. The 2013 appointed Prefect of Illela is Mamane Issa Ibrahim.

Population
