Imani Coppola

Imani Francesca Coppola ( born April 6, 1978 in New York) is an American pop singer and rapper.

Biography

Coppola comes from a musical family, her father was an avid jazz musician and she learned how her siblings in her youth violin. She studied music at the State University of New York, and came at this time to a recording contract with Columbia Records. In 1997 she had her first success with the single Legend of a Cowgirl. The song was a hip- hop song, which was based on a sample from Sunshine Superman by Donovan. It became a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and then came in many other countries in the charts. However, her debut album Chupacabra could not benefit from it and remained despite good reviews without success.

Then they tried to assert their own musical ideas, but could not prevail against her label, Columbia Records, which is why there was no further release and the end of the record deal. She worked primarily as a classical violinist, but continued her pop career continuing independently and also continued to produce their own plates and self-distributed. Imani Coppola had in 2001 with You All Dat another international hit with the Baha Men.

Between 2000 and 2007 she recorded seven albums, they usually drove himself through their website. Two of them could at professional labels accommodate, Afrodite ( 2004), Mental Records and The Black and White Album (2007) on Ipecac Recordings. Ipecac is the label of Mike Patton, Peeping Tom in the project, she participated as a singer and violinist.

Little Jackie

2008 teamed Imani Coppola with Adam Pallin, whom she had met through their producer Michael Mangini. The multi-instrumentalist and DJ Pallin had already collaborated with Tom Jones and Elliot Yamin of American Idol. They formed the duo Little Jackie, where the name originated, among other things based on the song Little Jackie Wants to Be a Star by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. Musically, they resorted to Soul of the late '60s and hip-hop and so produced the album The Stoop. The pre-release single The World Should Revolve Around Me became a hit in Britain in August 2008. The album's success, however, remained significantly below expectations.
