Institut für Rundfunktechnik

The Institute of Radio Technology GmbH (IRT ) is the research institute of all public- service broadcasters in Germany ( ARD / ZDF / DRadio ), Austria (ORF ) and Switzerland (SRG SSR), headquartered in Munich -Freimann. The IRT pursuing charitable purposes and aims at promoting the European broadcasting system and the European broadcasting technology.

Activities

The IRT conducts research in the field of technology of radio, television and Internet.

The Institute enhances existing system solutions for the production and distribution of broadcasting services, develops and evaluates new technologies and supports their implementation in practice. The IRT represents the interests of broadcasting through its participation in various international bodies such as EBU / UER, ITU, DVB, World DMB etc.

A list of annual research and development activities can be found in the annual reports of the Institute.

The IRT is the editor of the Technical Guidelines of the public- service broadcasters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In IRT, the so-called Wittmoor list is maintained and made ​​available to the public free of charge. In this list important data of operating radio and television stations in the Federal Republic of Germany are compiled centrally.

In the context of public relations, the Institute regularly informed in technical and scientific symposia, organized jointly with the television and cinema Technology Society and the Bavaria Film and can be called as video posts.

History

Predecessor organizations include the Radio Technical Experimental Station of the Reichs- Rundfunk -Gesellschaft in Berlin ( founded in 1928 ), the research and development facility at SWF in Baden -Baden and the Radio Technical central office in Bad Homburg (est. 1945).
