International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation

The Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing ( FIBT ) also known as International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ( IBSF ) is the world governing body of all Bobsportler and Skeleton drivers and their national associations.

The FIBT was founded on 23 November 1923 in Paris and initially united only to international bobsledding. In 1927, the luge sport - even as the luge or toboggan known - and the sport of skeleton as its own section added. However, the luger broke up in 1957 by the FIBT and founded with the Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course (FIL ) have their own association. The driver remained in the FIBT Skeleton. In many national associations there is not this separation between bobsledding, skeleton, and luge sport. In Germany, the Bobsleigh and Luge athletes since 1911 under various names in today's Bobsleigh and Luge Federation of Germany (BSD ) combined.

The FIBT was responsible for the rules in the Bobsleigh and Skeleton sports for the youth and junior sport as well as for the realization of international events like the World Championships, the World Cup, the European Championships, the European Cup, the America Cup and Olympic competitions.
