International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam ( IDFA ) takes place every year since 1988 in the Dutch capital Amsterdam. It is the world 's biggest film festival for documentaries.
Program design
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam has several competitive programs for documentaries. A lot of side rows outside of the competition complete the program, including a program line with world premieres Dutch documentaries, a Panorama section, the Kids & Docs program with children's movies, hosting retrospectives and exhibitions. As part of the festival program, among other public talks and workshops will be held.
In addition to the actual festival runs the IDFA three other institutions. Docs for Sale is a major international film market. The FORUM is a marketplace to find financing partners for documentaries. Ján Vrijman Fund finally supports documentary productions and festivals in developing countries.
Film Awards
Is the main prize of the festival of up to 2008 after the Dutch film director Joris Ivens Joris Ivens Award nominated for Best Documentary with a length of 60 minutes and more, since 2009, only the name IDFA Award for Best Feature Length Documentary supporting. More Movie awards include the formerly Silver Wolf Award -called price for best documentary with a length of 30 to 59 minutes ( today IDFA Award for Best Mid -Length Documentary ) and the formerly Silver Cub Award -called award for best documentary with a length under 30 minutes. Be awarded Moreover Prices for debut works, student films as well as films about human rights and an audience prize.

Financing
Financial subsidies receives the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, among others by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the municipality of Amsterdam, the Netherlands Film Fund and the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund.
With the IDFA Fund, the festival offers its part financial support for individuals who are shown in the presented films.
