Ioan Robu

Ioan Robu ( born November 6, 1944 in Târgu Secuiesc, Transylvania, Romania) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Metropolitan of Bucharest.

Life

Ioan Robu resigned after graduating from high school in Iasi in the Seminary of St. Joseph and studied at the Theological Institute of the University Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iasi. He received on 15 August 1968, ordained priest by Bishop Petru Pleşca. He was vicar in Craiova and pastor in Tulcea, Kogălniceanu and Buzău. From 1973 to 1977 he completed his doctoral studies Dr. theol. at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and the Accademia Alfonsiana. From 1977 to 1983 he was professor and rector of the Theological Institute of the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iasi.

In 1983, he was first appointed by Pope John Paul II to the diocesan administrator in Bucharest, in 1984 he was appointed titular bishop of Cellae in Proconsulari and the appointment as apostolic administrator in the Archdiocese of Bucharest. He received his episcopal consecration on December 8, 1984, the Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Cardinal Casaroli in Rome; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishop, later Cardinal Luigi Poggi and nuncio and Archbishop Mario Schierano. His motto is " And the truth shall make you free ."

In 1990 she was appointed by papal decree to the Archbishop and Metropolitan of Bucharest. Ioan Robu is chairman of the Romanian Bishops' Conference.

Since 2001 he is honorary member of the Romanian Academy.
