Ionel Augustin

Ionel " Oneaţă " Augustin ( born October 11, 1955 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. He completed 383 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. He also took part in the European Football Championship 1984.

Playing career

Augustine began at the age of ten years playing football at Dinamo Bucharest. After he had gone through all the youth teams, he moved in 1974 to the first team on. On 23 April 1975 he gave the victory against Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea his debut in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. In his first season with Dinamo won the championship Augustin. But since he only came once in the second half also used in the following season, he moved to league rivals Jiul Petrosani to play matches.

In 1977 Augustin returned to Dinamo and managed to become a regular player. With Dinamo he was again able to win the championship in the years 1982, 1983 and 1984. In 1984, by reaching the semi-finals in the European Champions Cup he achieved his greatest success at the international level, the same year he finished behind Marcel Coraş second place in the Romanian scoresheet.

During the winter break of the 1985/86 season Augustin moved to league rivals AS Victoria Bucharest, which had emerged from the second team of Dinamo. Here Augustine was one of those players with whom the club with two third places in the seasons 1986/87 and 1987/ 88, the greatest success in its history reached before he was forcibly disbanded a year later due to numerous match-fixing. Augustin, however, had left Victoria in 1988 and was changed to Rapid Bucharest, but he already left again during the winter break. He joined Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea that fought in Divizia B to the rise and only doing just failed. In 1989 he moved to the second division Unirea Slobozia, where he finished his career in 1990. In 33 European matches he managed to score 10 goals.

National

Augustin played a total of 34 games for the Romanian national football team, but scored only three goals. He made his debut on December 13, 1978 against Greece. Only under coach Mircea Lucescu Augustin was in 1982 and 1983 regulars over the years, was otherwise not go beyond occasional use. Lucescu nominated him for the European Football Championship in 1984 in France, where he appeared as a substitute in the match against Portugal for Rodion Cămătaru. Furthermore graduated Augustin 8 matches without scoring for the Romanian U21 national team.

Coaching career

Augustin was discontinued after his playing career at Dinamo Bucharest as a youth coach. From November 1995 to February 1996 he was briefly interim coach of the first team in Divizia A. After he had cared for some of the Romanian youth national teams, he took over from 1997 for four and a half years of the second division ARO Câmpulung Muscel, with whom he achieved some notable placements before the club in 2004 descent into Divizia C and was then dissolved. Augustin, however, had previously left the club already Dacia Unirea Brăila in direction and was changed after a strong second half 2002/ 03 in Divizia B from there in the summer of 2003 Gloria Buzău. He then took over in July 2004 as coach at Unirea Focsani and returned in 2005 to the Romanian U17 national team as assistant coach of Marian Bucurescu back. In the summer of 2006, he became coach at Juventus Cole Tina Bucharest in the League III, where he was released after missing out in the playoffs rise in early July 2007.
