Irene McGugan

Irene McGugan (* 1952 in the Angus area ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party ( SNP). McGugan visited the Forfar Academy and then studied at the Universities of Aberdeen and Dundee. After that she worked as a social worker in India and the region Tayside. Before her election to the Scottish Parliament McGugan was a member of the Regional Council of Angus.

Political career

In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 McGugan candidate in the constituency of Aberdeen South, but only received the fourth highest number of votes. Since McGugan, however, was set on the fourth rank of the Regional Evaluation of the SNP for choosing North East Scotland, she moved as a result of the election result as one of seven representatives from the selection region in the newly created Scottish parliament. In the shadow cabinet of the First Minister John Swinney McGugan was assigned as Deputy Secretary of State for Education, Culture and Sport. In the following general election of 2003, McGugan applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of West Dundee and received the second largest share of the vote behind Kate Maclean of the Labour Party. Since it was set in these elections only on the seventh rank of the regional election list, they lost as a result of the election result its mandate for the constituency and retired from the Parliament from.
