Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference

The Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference (English Irish Catholic Bishops ' Conference, Irish Comhdháil Easpag Caitliceach Éireann ) is the official Bishops' Conference of the Catholic Bishops of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The conferences are always in the national Catholic seminary, the St. Patrick 's College, Maynooth, held. The otherwise autonomous bishops take during these conferences the opportunity to discuss pastoral issues and discuss the national political situation. The Irish Bishops ' Conference is a member of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences ( CCEE).

Members and President

The bishops' conference is held in a quarterly basis. The committee consists of 32 bishops representing a total of 26 dioceses. Its jurisdiction covers the entire island and refers to the jurisdiction area of Ireland and Northern Ireland. According to ancient tradition, the President is constantly asked by the Archbishop of Armagh; currently this is Cardinal Seán Brady. He is also Primate of All Ireland; the presidency is not of cardinal status dependent.

The Episcopal Conference is organized into five departments, within departments in the subject-specific commissions are incorporated, the central task is to facilitate the work in the dioceses and coordinate.
