Irmtraud Morgner

IRMTRAUD Morgner ( born August 22, 1933 as IRMTRAUD Elfriede Morgner in Chemnitz, † May 6, 1990 in Berlin) was a German writer.

Life

IRMTRAUD Morgner was the daughter of a locomotive driver. After she finished high school in 1952 at the present Agricola -Gymnasium in Chemnitz, she studied from 1952 to 1956 and German Literature at the University of Leipzig. From 1956 to 1958 she worked on the editorial board of the journal New German literature. Since 1958, she lived as a freelance writer in Berlin.

After a few narrative works in the style of socialist realism IRMTRAUD Morgner succeeded in 1968 with her ​​novel wedding in Constantine Opel breakthrough by the reading public of the GDR. The first time produced virtuoso mix of fantasy and realistic everyday description from a feminist perspective, was her trademark, and with the unusually broad Roman Life and Adventures of Trobadora Beatriz and the continuation Amanda she achieved in 1974 both the readers of the GDR as well as those of Federal Republic of Germany with great success. IRMTRAUD Morgner was a board member of the Writers Union of the GDR.
