Isabella, Princess of Asturias (1851–1931)

Infanta Isabella of Spain, Doña Isabel de Borbón y Borbón, Infanta de España ( * December 20, 1851 at the Palacio Real in Madrid, † April 23, 1931 in Paris) was a member of the House of Bourbon. She was twice, 1851-1857 and 1874-1880, as Princess of Asturias heir to the Spanish crown.

Life

Isabella was the eldest daughter of the Spanish Queen Isabella II (1830-1904) and her husband Prince Francis of Assisi (1822-1902), eldest son of Francisco de Paula de Borbón and Princess Luisa Carlotta of Bourbon- Sicily. Your maternal grandparents were King Ferdinand VII and his fourth wife Princess Maria Christina of Sicily. The marriage remained childless; her husband suffered from depression and committed suicide in 1871 in Lucerne.

After the expulsion of their parents from Spain in September 1868, she grew up in Vienna and Paris. Her mother renounced the Spanish crown on June 25, 1870 in favor of her brother Alfonso XII., After restoration of the monarchy in 1875 ascended the throne.
